The Kochi-Muziris biennale is an international exhibition of contemporary art held every 2 years. It is the first of its kind in India. The Kochi-Muziris Biennale is an initiative of the Kochi-Biennale Foundation (KBF) with support from the government of Kerala. KBF was founded in 2010 by artists Bose Krishnamachari and Riyas Komu. The exhibition is set across Kochi, Muziris and surrounding islands in venues of artistic and cultural prominence.
Indian and international artists showcase their artworks across diverse mediums like film, installation, painting, sculpture, performance art etc. This is a celebration of the confluence of civilizations and foreign elements that has given modern Kochi and its legendary ancestor, the ancient port of Muziris, its identity.
Alongside the exhibition, the Biennale also hosts talks, seminars, screenings, music, workshops and educational activities for school children and students.
The third edition of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale started on 12 December 2016 and will wrap up on 29 March 2017.
